Blue Collar Betties Logo Contest Winner!

CNYRD is excited to announce the winner of the Blue Collar Betties' logo contest. We are really thankful for all of the artists who entered, and we hope to be able to utilize your work in some future Betties' promotion.
and the winner is: Rob Perry!!!
Rob is part of the team at Quadsimia in New York Mills as a web and graphic designer and he heard about the contest through our good friends at the Utica Music and Arts fest and their twitter feed (Thanks UMAF!!!)
Rob's personal design company site can be seen at Just Another Idea. You can also catch him on Facebook

We felt that Rob's logo best portrayed the theme we were after and we look forward to getting Betties' uniforms and merchandise made to match. You can bet that you'll see more examples of Rob's work in the derby community in the future- drop him a line for help for your league!

Here are some sketches of the logo creation process courtesy of Rob, along with the finished product on display at the CNY merch booth from the 4/24/10 bout. Click HERE

Bout Recap, 3/13/2010 vs Green Mountain Derby Dames away

Saturday 3/13/2010 the Utica Clubbers traveled to Burlington VT to play against the Green Mountain Derby Dames. We had a lot of fun and Green Mountain were wonderful hosts. We always love playing against a well trained league because regardless of the outcome it makes us such better skaters. Our first timers and newer girls learned a lot in preparation for our home season for their Blue Collar Betties' debut. We always stress that you only get better playing a team that is equal to or better than yourselves, and GMDD was definitely that. Thanks GMDD for a lot of great hits and for all the fan support from those who made the trip. Final score was GMDD 102, Utica 43

CNYRD participates in its 3rd annual Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Our longest running yearly tradition, the Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade, was again a success this third year. While the Utica Clubbers headed off early for a bout in VT, our newbies, refs, NSO's, family, and friends took to the streets to hand out season schedules and a handful of free bout tickets for our season opener on 4/3. Everyone had a great time, despite cold and windy weather. Thanks so much to everyone who stayed in town to represent us, and a special thanks to those who did the parade and then skipped the party to drive up and support us in VT. You all rock!

Official sponsor of CNYRD's 2010 home season afterparties!

Our good friends at Delvecchios, right around the corner from JFK Arena in Rome, have offered to be our official afterparty site for our 2010 home season. They hosted our season closer after party last year and fully impressed us with an amazing food spread free for our people (and kept it coming!), had drink specials on UC and a few other things just for us crazy derby people, and also had an awesome karaoke DJ set up who spawned a now infamous dance off between our very own Secret Asian Man and Funk Roll Brother. There will be more this year!

And all within walking distance of the arena. Thank you Delvecchios!

CNYRD Announces 2010 Charity Sponsor!

After careful consideration, CNYRD is proud to announce that for the entire 2010 bouting season our charity of choice will be the YWCA Mohawk Valley’s domestic violence programs. We will be donating $1.00 of every ticket sold at the door of each event to help the YWCA. Part of CNYRD's mission statement is to empower women and we could not think of a better way to help than to try to provide extra funding to help area women who are victims of domestic violence. Please join us in our support of the YWCA and pick up some information at a CNYRD event.

If you or someone you know needs help due to domestic violence contact the YWCA’s 24-hour hotline at 797-7740

3/6/2010: America's Greatest Heart Run

On March 6th 2010, members of CNY Roller Derby joined thousands on the streets of Utica in supporting heart disease and stroke victims, research, and prevention. This was CNYRD's third year participating in this wonderful event. We met bright and early at Sangertown Mall and caught the shuttle to the start line. We then held our yearly tradition during the 5 mile walk of a stop in NY Mills for a photo under the Uncle's Tavern sign (a league sponsor), and then off to Soldato's pizza in Marcy (another league sponsor) to stuff ourselves with awesome food and drinks (and this year, some ridiculous hot sauces!). Marc Goldberg took a bunch of amazing photos, including these that are posted. You can view the rest of them HERE

Flier and Tickets for March 13th bout vs Green Mountain Derby Dames

On March 13th, The Utica Clubbers are hitting the road for our last away bout before the home season starts. We'll be heading up near Burlington VT to play against the Green Mountain Derby Dames
this should be a fun road trip and a great bout.
But wait, you say! Isnt that the same day as Utica's infamous St. Patty's day parade (and subsequent debauchery)?! Well, yes, but we've decided to divide and conquer this year. The Clubbers and assorted refs and support staff are heading out early to get to VT on time, and many of the Blue Collar Betties, family, and friends are going to represent us in the parade and hand out our season schedule. Make a killer sign showing your support and there may be some free bout tickets in someone's pocket for you;)
